Billy Sunday (1862-1935)

Billy Sunday (1862-1935)

I try to read something new everyday and I always get amazed by the various kinds of people that have lived on this earth. I read an article about this guy named Billy Sunday and he is very interesting. Not only did he use his body to the fullest extent while preaching, he also had a very different way of looking at life.

Here are a few interesting sayings by him:
- Better die an old maid, sister, than marry the wrong man.

- To discover a flaw in our makeup is a chance to get rid of it, and add a new line of beauty to our life.

- God likes a little humor, as is evidence by the fact that he made the monkeys, the parrot -- and some of you people.

Southern Appalachian Music

My friend gave me this CD and at first I thought he had lost his mind. I've been listening to it for about a week now and it's starting to grow on me. I especially love the way Etta Baker plays the guitar and banjo.

The strangest thing is that I want to start playing my classical guitar again. I played it for a few years as a child and started again about 10 yrs. ago. Then I just packed it away and haven't touched it for yrs. I think it's time to wipe the dust off the case and tune the strings.

Burnt Out Stars

Shane MacGowan, The Nips, Soho, London, 1981

Strange that Shane Mac Gowan is posing in front of that saying in 1981. Today he is dying of alcoholism. I have always enjoyed listening to the Pogues and their lyrics always have a twisted humor hidden in there. He did become a Star and also a burnt one at that. Sometimes I wonder if deep down inside we all know what we are destined to become in this life. Alot of people will fight it and change their destiny, but not good old Shane Mac Gowen. He seems to have accepted it and made it a perfect art.

The Bad Brains

I used to love these guys, saw them play in the States a few times in the 80's. I read their lyrics for the first time and they make alot of sense. I really didn't know the Bad Brains were religious? I learn something new everyday.........................

The Meek
Jah children, jah children, yeah
The meek shall inherit the earth.
Jah children, jah children, yeah
The meek shall inherit the earth.
Why must Rasta live this way?

The creator has shown us a better way.
So why must I and I fight each other?
With unity and love for your brother,
there's always a better way.

Jah children, jah children, yeah
The meek shall inherit the earth.
Jah children, jah children, yeah
The meek shall inherit the earth.
In due season, each will pay

according to the works that
they have done on Earth today.
So I and I, we shall live in truth.
His Majesty, His Majesty
has shown us a better day.

:Speaks:
Blessed is the man who walketh not
in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of the sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful,
nor taketh delight in the way that the unrighteous go.

And he should be like a tree
planted by the rivers of water
that bringeth forth fruit in its due season.
Nor shall his leaves wither,
nor shall his locks wither,
nor shall he be smitten by the sun of the day,
and nor shall he be smitten by the moon of the night.
But be prosperous in the way that he goes,
in the way of our lord JAH!RASTAFARI!

The only way...
